YR12 KSAS Examination Instructions

We always open doors and bring candidates in 10 minutes before the published start time. This is to give us time to read the exam regulations and for you to complete any administration (reading instructions, completing candidate details), so that the actual examination can start at the published start time. You must arrive prepared, at least 15 minutes before the published start time.

Year 12 students must not make any arrangements for absence from School during any of these examinations.

Lessons will not take place during your KSAS exams, to give you the opportunity to undertake independent preparatory work. Examinations begin at 09:00 for AM exams and 13:00 for PM – please check the timetable carefully as it is your responsibility to ensure you know what time individual exams are due to start.

Candidates will only be expected to come into School for examinations. If you wish to revise at School, you will be able to work in Room 50 or your normal timetabled lesson classroom. If your normal timetabled room is a Science Lab or ICT room, please use Room 50. If you have any problem concerning this, please speak to the Sixth Form team. If you are only coming into School for an exam and leaving the School premises immediately afterwards, you do not need to sign in or out at Pupil Reception – you will be registered by your attendance in your examination.

If you are coming into School early to study, staying in School between AM and PM exams, or staying in School after an exam, you must sign in at Pupil Reception. If you sign in, you must sign out when you leave the School premises.

You are not to use the Library other than for the purpose of accessing the facilities and borrowing books. The Café is open all day. There is no access to the Dining Room at any time for Year 12 students.

All examinations will be held in the Main Hall (with the exception of Art, MFL and Music) and most students will have exams on each day, with a maximum of two exams on any day. Please check the timetable to familiarise yourselves – any errors or omissions should first be referred to the Examinations Officer (EO). This also includes any exam clashes.

You should arrive at the examination venue at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time with all the necessary equipment required for the exam (pens, pencils, ruler, mathematical equipment, etc. in a clear plastic case) – it is your responsibility to bring your own equipment as we will not provide it for you. We will only supply replacements in the case of candidate equipment failure and cannot guarantee to be able to replace all equipment for candidates.

Calculators, if used, must be in Examination mode – it is your responsibility to set your own calculator into Examination mode. Any candidate found to have a calculator that is not set to Examination mode will have their calculator removed from them and a replacement “basic” calculator will only be supplied if available.

No mobile phones, watches of any kind or AirPods are permitted in any exam room (even if they are switched off and in your possession). Please ensure these are securely kept away before entering the exam venue.

Full School uniform must be worn whilst on the School premises. You will also need to bring your swipe card, or other form of photographic ID (passport or driver’s licence) which should be placed on your desk as identification.

Study Leave may be withdrawn for any individual who is deemed to be failing to use their time effectively in preparation for the examinations, or abusing the privilege. In those circumstances, the student will be required to attend normal School hours and carry out work in preparation for examinations under supervision of staff.

It is important that you prepare thoroughly for these exams over the coming weeks so that teachers can assess your current progress and provide you with the necessary feedback.

Students should ask their teachers for advice if they need assistance with their revision. Guidance on how students might best approach their revision will also be provided by subject teachers as part of the ongoing learning process.

Homework in the week immediately prior to the exam week (approximately five hours per subject) will be given over to revision, but you are encouraged to start earlier than this in order to consolidate your learning and so that you do not leave all of your revision until the last minute.

Seating Lists and Examination Information

Entry to the Main Hall for all exams will be through the Science Block entrance. This is where your seating lists will be displayed. You will make your way quietly down the Science corridor towards the Hall through the School Foyer.
