During your time in the Sixth Form, you will be required to complete our programme to complement your academic progress, and help you build a professional portfolio to equip you for managing your career. 

The King’s (The Cathedral) Sixth Form Study Programme

Our programme is designed to provide our students with a structured and challenging learning programme that supports their development and progression in line with their career plans. All of our students follow the programme below:

• 3 A-Levels, with the exception of students that study Further Maths, who then study for 4 A-Levels. We also offer the Extended Project Qualification for students to complete during the start of Year 13.

• English and maths, where students have not yet achieved a GCSE grade 4.

• During the summer term, Year 12 will all complete up to 4 days (or the equivalent) of good quality, career appropriate work experience, whilst in addition many students complete regular, weekly work experience or volunteering related to their career goals.

• We believe in developing our students to be well-rounded, therefore in addition to their A-Levels, all of Year 12 and 13 will take part in other non-qualification activity.

• They will all take part in an activity on a Wednesday afternoon, which will either be a sporting, musical, citizenship or cultural activity.

• They study a programme of ‘Research Studies’ which includes a wide range of topics, such as philosophy, the arts, ethics, consumerism, extended essay writing skills and financial capability.

• They also attend ‘Learning for Life’ lessons (PSHE) where they examine a wide range of topics, including career choices, healthy living and healthy relationships.

• These programmes help students’ character, broader skills, attitudes and confidence, and support their progression

All subject areas will offer a range of additional optional opportunities which give students wider experiences beyond the core academic curriculum. This will include a range of trips and visits, clubs and competitions that broaden their skills and knowledge. These opportunities will be shared with students at the time they become available.
